Some athletes win competitions. Others change the sport. Nachman Balulu did both — and his story has been woven into the heart of our brand for years.
When we first met Nachman, it was impossible not to feel the force of his spirit. After losing his leg, he didn’t step back from life — he stepped deeper into it. Instead of letting adversity define him, he turned to the ocean with even more passion, determination, and fire. Through relentless training and an unbreakable mindset, he rose to the top of the adaptive surfing world, earning international titles and the admiration of athletes and fans everywhere.
But what truly sets Nachman apart isn’t just his athletic ability. It’s the way he carries himself — with humility, courage, and a love for surfing that’s impossible to miss. Supporting him wasn’t a business decision for us. It was a privilege. Over the years, we proudly sponsored him through competitions, training seasons, and the everyday grind that comes with being an elite adaptive athlete. And in return, he inspired us in ways we never expected.
His journey sparked an idea that quickly became one of the most meaningful projects we’ve ever created: a custom pair of sunglasses featuring a temple modeled after his prosthetic leg. This wasn’t just a design choice. It was a tribute — to his strength, to adaptive athletes everywhere, and to the belief that what makes us different is exactly what makes us powerful. When Nachman held the prototype for the first time, the reaction said everything. It wasn’t just eyewear. It was a symbol of resilience.
From the beginning, we knew this collaboration needed to give back. A portion of the proceeds from the Nachman Balulu Custom Sunglasses was donated directly to the Association of Adaptive Surfing, supporting the athletes and community that helped shape his journey. Their work creates opportunities, training, and resources for adaptive surfers around the world, and we’re honored to contribute to that mission.
Nachman’s story continues to inspire us — not just through his victories, but through the way he lives his life. His journey reminds us that strength isn’t measured by what you have, but by what you overcome. We’re grateful to have walked alongside him, to have created something meaningful together, and to continue supporting the athletes who redefine what’s possible every day.
Here’s to Nachman.
Here’s to adaptive athletes everywhere.
And here’s to the waves still waiting to be conquered.
